Hello panbc
Thanks for this forum. Seeking peer feedback around discharge to home in day surgery setting for two situations: 1)lower limb regional blocks: NAPAN to my understanding says lower limb regional blocksmust have full sensory and motor block of 0 for discharge home. We have surgery and anesthesia advocating for sending bupivicaine blocks ( 12-36 hrs) home with sensory and motor impairments (Person cannot ambulate without assistance)
2) Discharge of spinals from day surgery:
NAPAN says testing dermatomes w touch or ice ( as long as one is used consistently). We have new nurses who use ice who adamantly oppose touch/pinch and say ice is best practice. I cannot understand why this would be if propricetion/sensory to soles of feet and full motor has returned. Any opinions? Thanks so much!
